Boxing Classes for Parkinson’s
Plexity runs small-group, 60-minute Boxing Exercise classes specifically designed for people with Parkinson's Disease. Each class is part of an 8-week programme carefully developed to provide safe, effective and enjoyable sessions, combining evidence-based movement science with the energy and challenge of boxing.
We keep our groups small so you receive personalised guidance, including regressions and progressions where needed, making each class as specific to you as possible.
Boxing is one of the most researched and recommended forms of exercise for Parkinson's disease. Here's why it works so well:
It's loud, rhythmic and repetitive:
the combination of sound, movement and rhythm is particularly powerful for people with Parkinson's, helping to cue and coordinate movement
It challenges balance and coordination:
footwork, weight shifting and punching patterns demand the kind of complex movement that keeps the brain and body talking to each other
It builds strength, power and rotation:
the turning and twisting movements that Parkinson's makes increasingly difficult but that boxing naturally demands, and that matter most for everyday function and fall prevention
It's dual-task by nature:
remembering combinations while moving is exactly the kind of cognitive-motor challenge that research shows benefits you
It builds confidence:
there's something uniquely empowering about hitting things, especially when PD can make you feel like your body isn't your own
Seated and standing options are available. Carers and whānau are welcome to join.
